David Foster Wallace
American · 1962–2008
David Foster Wallace was an American novelist, essayist, and short story writer, best known for his encyclopedic novel Infinite Jest (1996) and the short-story collection Brief Interviews with Hideous Men. His work is characterised by maximalist prose, formal experimentation, self-referential metafiction, and a deep engagement with sincerity as a counter to postmodern detachment. His essay collection Consider the Lobster and the unfinished novel The Pale King were published posthumously. He took his own life in 2008 after a long struggle with depression.
