Postmodernism
A broad intellectual and cultural movement that emerged in the mid-20th century, characterised by scepticism towards grand narratives, irony about meaning and representation, and an awareness that all cultural products are mediated constructions. In literature and art, postmodernism tends to foreground artifice (see metafiction), blur the line between high and low culture, and treat authenticity itself as a construct — provoking the counter-reaction of the New Sincerity.
