Entropy

In physics, a measure of disorder in a system; in popular usage, a shorthand for the tendency of ordered structures to decay over time. The second law of thermodynamics implies that closed systems trend toward higher entropy — a fact often invoked metaphorically to describe the slow disintegration of houses, relationships, institutions, and lives.
