Conservatism
A political and cultural disposition that prizes inherited institutions, customs, and norms as accumulated solutions to coordination problems we don't fully understand, and is therefore wary of large or rapid changes. Often traced to Edmund Burke's reaction against the French Revolution, the conservative case rests on the idea that the alternative to a working civilisation is not utopia but a state of nature where trust collapses and violence is the default — so the burden of proof falls on those who would tear down rather than those who would preserve.
