Eastern mysticism

The contemplative and metaphysical traditions of South and East Asia — primarily Hindu Vedanta and the Upanishads, Buddhism in its various lineages, Taoism, and the meditative practices associated with them. Common threads include the dissolution of the self, recognition that consciousness and ultimate reality are one, and an emphasis on direct experiential insight over doctrine. Picked up by Western thinkers from Schopenhauer onwards, and increasingly absorbed into secular Western culture through mindfulness, yoga, and the 1960s counterculture.
