American AI researcher and writer, co-founder of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute and a central figure in the rationalist community. He has spent decades arguing that recursively self-improving artificial general intelligence poses an existential risk to humanity, popularising concepts such as the intelligence explosion and the alignment problem through his Sequences and the rationalist blog LessWrong.
