The Sovereign Child

By Aaron Stupple

2024

Parenting

A polemic for radical respect of children's autonomy, drawing on the Taking Children Seriously tradition and David Deutsch's epistemology. Stupple argues that bedtimes, screen-time limits, forced schooling, and most ordinary parental rules are not just unpleasant but actively harmful — and proposes a model in which children are treated as full reasoning agents whose preferences should be taken seriously by default.
